Your Tips To Gluten Free Cooking

Perhaps you are one of the many people who have to practice gluten free cooking. You might have a sensitivity to gluten and realize it. About one out of every one hundred and fifty people in this country suffer from gluten sensitivity. These are the signs you should look for. But if you experience these symptoms on a regular basis no matter how much you eat then you might have sensitivity to gluten. Gluten is an amino acid or protein. It is found in wheat, barley, and rye. It is the part of the wheat that gives bread dough the gummy texture. Since so many foods are made with wheat it is sometimes hard to avoid eating gluten.

But with the fact that more and more people are being diagnosed with gluten sensitivity more and more food companies are offering gluten free products. You can find gluten free bake mixes for bread or pastries. You can even find gluten free snacks like potato based pretzels. As companies see a market for gluten free products there will be more released on the shelves of your favorite super markets.

There also are restaurants that offer on their menus gluten free dishes. As the food industry sees that people will start coming to their business for gluten free meals count on the menu choices to grow for those who have to avoid gluten. If you enjoy cooking you will want to cook foods without gluten. You bake bread with products not containing gluten like soy flour rather than wheat flour.

But you can also use rice flour. And you can prepare your own rice flour in your kitchen. You will want to start off with long grain brown rice. White rice has had the husks removed along with the nutrients found in brown rice. You will need a blender that can grind rice into flour. There are blenders on the market that are used to grind fruits and vegetables into smoothies and soups.

These high speed power blenders can be found on the internet. You then use the rice flour and combine it with about a half cup of soy flour you can buy in the store. You then add black molasses; and with that two eggs, baking soda and powder. One cook adds a cup of instant mashed potato mix to help bind together the flours.

Add just enough water to mix it into a smooth but not runny concoction. This does does not need yeast. Then pour the mix into a bread pan and put into a pre heated oven at 350 degrees for about an hour. Then remove it from the oven and let cool. This is a great tasting bread that is gluten free.

Now that more and more people are being diagnosed with a gluten sensitivity more and more recipes, cookbooks, and videos on gluten free cooking are available. Check your local book stores for cookbooks. You can find on the internet a lot of great gluten free recipes.
