Coughing is mostly accompanied with flu and common cold, and causes acute pain and dryness in throat. It is important to seek suitable medical help and get it treated appropriately.

Coughs are a body's defence mechanism to get rid of irritation in the air passage inhibiting the free passage of air to the lungs. They not just happen due to physical discomfort and ailments but also can be caused due to psychological problems. Conditions such as pneumonia and infections in sinuses result in acute coughs while chronic ailments like asthma cause chronic coughing problems.

It is essential that you consult a doctor and get a proper diagnosis of the root cause and severity of your cough diagnosed so that appropriate treatment can be done. Antihistamines, antibiotics and cough suppressants are a few of the medications usually prescribed by the doctors to offer relief from acute coughs. In various chronic cases where the cough is persistent, the medical treatment can even take months to be able to cure the problem.
